Apply your coating the right way

With water-repellent coatings, preparation decides the result more often than the product does. This page covers the shower spray, the rain repellent and the boat-glass coating.

Four rules

Each product page lists its own quantities and times.

  1. Clean it completely. The coating bonds to whatever is on the surface. Clean your shower with a descaler and your car glass with Detail Surface Cleaner, then rinse well.
  2. Dry it completely. Never apply to a wet or damp surface. If the glass is very hot or very cold, wait — 5–30 °C is right.
  3. Work in small sections; spray and wipe at once. No more than 0.5 m² at a time. It evaporates fast: spread it with a microfibre cloth in circles straight after spraying.
  4. Let it set. Keep the surface dry for the first 24 hours.

If you see streaks

Streaks usually mean the product dried on the surface. Keep buffing in circles with a clean, dry side of the cloth. Next time, work in smaller sections.

Tiles, grout and matte surfaces aren’t suitable for these products — they can leave marks.

What shortens the effect

  • Abrasive cream cleaners and scouring pads
  • The cleaner and washer fluid you use on the glass
  • Limescale or grease left on the surface before coating

When water stops beading and starts to spread, the effect has worn down. Clean the surface and apply again.
